Backstory
You know, I don’t even remember where me and D Nel met, but it was in San Marcos, Texas. And if you know anything about San Marcos.. well I’ll just say I was drunk pretty often and leave it there lol. Anyways, after we had met and I had heard his music, I knew we had to work together.
See part of being a rapper, you have to pick your collaborations carefully. At least for me, I can’t stand to hear a song where one artist is noticeably less skilled than the other, and college towns ain’t exactly a hotspot of lyrical prowess (despite the large, large number of people trying their best). But that wasn’t a concern with D Nel, because that nigga cold as hell.
Matter of fact, here’s some insider information for your ass - D Nel actually wrote his verse in the studio while I recorded mine. For reference, I spent like 2 weeks writing my verses for this song, and another week to settle on ‘The flow so cold we don’t need no hook’, and this nigga finished his verse in the time it took me to say it. And it STILL came out hard as hell. That nigga is talented as FUCK man. Go stream his music before he blows up.
And for your last piece of insider info, I wanna tell you about the cover art. I actually didn’t even have cover art for the song when I went to upload it, and for some reason once I start uploading a song I get this extreme sense of urgency. Maybe in my head I’m scared the song will get deleted somehow (as if I didn’t have the files downloaded to my computer or whatever), but I had to do it myself. See it’s pretty hard to tell, but the notebook on the cover actually has the first verse handwritten on the page + a little weed sprinkled on the page so it would look a little more ‘casual’. I made the whole thing in like 3 minutes with the browser window open so it wouldn’t make my song disappear, and uploaded it as soon as I finished up in Lightroom.
It’s probably one of my most bar heavy songs to date so if that’s the thing you’re into, or you wanna listen just to shit on the bars, download a copy of ape and examine for yourself
